Our Community
Soldotna and Kenai are the flourishing core of the Kenai Peninsula. Soldotna has also become an important administrative hub for the Central Peninsula. It is the site of Central Peninsula General Hospital, Kenai Peninsula College, Alaska State Trooper Headquarters, Kenai National Wildlife Refuge and the administrative headquarters for the Kenai Peninsula Borough. Kenai offers spectacular views of the magnificent Mt. Redoubt, Mt. Spurr, and Mt. Iliamna, three active volcanoes in the Alaska Range directly across Cook Inlet. It is the site of Kenai Municipal Airport, Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center, Alaska Job Bank, Alaska Court Services, and Challenger Learning Center.

The Kenai River is the most popular sport fishing destination in Alaska and is world renowned for its wide-ranging fishing opportunities. Voted the #1 Fishing Hotspot in North America by Field & Stream Magazine in 2004, the Kenai River offers four species of salmon Chinook (King), Sockeye (Red), Coho (Silver) and Pink Salmon fishing. Virtually any time of the summer is salmon fishing season on The Kenai. The world record king salmon, which weighed about 44 kg (97 lb), was caught in the Kenai River in 1985. The Kenai is also the home of trophy size rainbow trout and Dolly Varden. Stretching to sizes over 76.2cm (30 inches). The Kenai River is only part of the draw. Most seacoast towns on The Kenai offer charter fishing for halibut and other saltwater species.
